Watch the theatre like an ancient Greek and sleep with all the comforts
London, July 11 2014 – Surrounded by pine trees, cypresses and humming crickets, this is how the Greeks might have watched their plays centuries ago. But, this is also the main stage of Barcelona’s largest annual summer festival and a Greek amphitheatre is the set of Festival Grec, taking place this July and bringing together dozens of shows from around the world, encompassing dance, music, theatre and circus.
From its humble beginning, when the Greek Theatre (which was actually built especially for the 1929 World’s Fair on the site of a disused quarry) was the only venue used, the festival has grown to become both a highlight of the Barcelona summer cultural calendar and a major event on the European performing arts scene. The Festival Grec includes a program for family audiences called MiniGrec and there are performances in English, with Catalan surtitles.
Sleep like the god’s and goddesses
Barcelona is a fairly manageable city, 30 minutes to cross it by taxi and we have found places where to stay to fit everyone’s budgets and near to the Festival Grec.
